Halal Supplements!

Hello, hope you are all well and enjoying 2016. We’re already half way through; I don’t know how time passes us by so fast. I have been meaning to write this blog post for a while, but haven’t had the time to just sit down and write it, the thoughts have been swirling around in my head and I have finally got round to putting my words on (virtual) paper….or screen if you will. So read on to hear my thoughts and review on something new I have been trying out.

My Haul!
I went to my first ever Food Matters Live event. It's all about food, healthy and nutrition, run over 3 days with lots and lots of talks debating and discussing various hot topics we often hear about today. When I first read about it, I knew I had to be there! Here's a little overview of my day and what I got up to, the talks, what I learnt, the freebies and the event as a whole.

WORKSHOP: Healthy Food Art

In my mission to promote healthy eating to the younger generation and help children build healthy habits from a young age, I got a great opportunity to deliver a healthy workshop and I decided to do it on healthy food art. It was a great success and so much fun.

Normal Girl Nutritionist

Hi!! How are you all? I thought I would write a post letting you know a little bit more about me and my thoughts and my life as a nutritionist. Yes, my name is Ayshabibi, I am a nutritionist and I love it! I just stumbled upon this course when looking through UCAS a few months before starting university; I was looking through the course list deciding which one to do and I saw human nutrition, I was intrigued and didn't even know such a course existed and once I read the course description I knew I wanted to do it. And I have never regretted it one bit... (except when having to do stats at university).

Healthy Ramadhan 2014: Keep Calm, Keep Cool & Stay Energised.

The buzz is in the air, the preparations have been made, it's very nearly almost here! Ramadhan, a month where Muslims are prohibited from eating and drinking from the early hours of the morning till sunset, to refresh our bodies and souls, but also to exercise our self-control and our faith to God. With the long summer days that Ramadhan now falls upon (here in the UK), there is a need for extra steps and special care to be taken in order to take care of ourselves and help us get through the day. In this blog post, I hope to provide special advice and guidance to help us keep our energy levels at its optimum.

Anatolian Cultural Fete 2014

The Anatolian Cultural Fete is a festival that has been running for 7 years now in Clissold Park. I hadn’t been to the previous ones and have been wanting to go, so was happy to be free to go this year. I went with my cousin even though the weather was not on our side, obviously I went for the food but there was lot more going on. Read here to find out more about the fete that just seems to be getting bigger and bigger.

Food Review: Snack Bars

Snack bars, cereal bars, breakfast bars, energy bars, what ever you like to call them, they are taking over our supermarket shelves. We are always short on time, and looking for new ways to eat on the go when we don’t have time to sit down and have a meal or snack or just need a quick energy fix when we are going about our day. We all know those days. One of the quickest way to have chosen to have our energy fix is by having a cereal bar, it has become a convenience food. However, not all of them are as good as they seem. In this blog I am going to review just some the bars I found on the supermarket shelves.

Live Below The Line Challenge 2014

Live Below the Line is an amazing annual challenge where many people live on £1 a day to raise awareness on poverty. Gandhi said – “Poverty is the worst form of violence.” Although, this week wasn’t ideal for me to undertake the challenge due to prior engagements, I did it for one day. And let me tell you it wasn’t easy.

Interactive Health Check

It's important to get a health check regularly and I have not had one in while, so when my mum told me about the machine at the Hackney Service Centre (behind the town hall), I knew I had to go! I went today and here is how it went.

National Salt Week 2014: Stop…Look…Choose

We all know that salt is bad for us, we see the health hazards everywhere. Salt is in a lot of the foods around us that we have every day; bread, cereals, sauces, soups, processed foods. That’s about 75-80% mostly hidden in our everyday foods. That is why we are having too much of it, way too much, because we are surrounded by it.

Green Tea - Good or Bad?

The interest and consumption of green tea has shot up in the last couple of years and many people are having it every day now, and even replacing it with their normal mug of tea or coffee. I have to have my nice warm mug of green tea in the morning to wake myself up; otherwise I can’t function, it gives me my morning boost. It’s weird because before I started having my morning green tea I didn’t used to have tea or coffee in the morning, I didn’t feel the need to have it like other people do. Now, I NEED my green tea, I’m kind of addicted, I even take my own tea bags when I travel.

Happy New Year 2014 - Fresh start, new beginnings!

Another year has gone by and it's been a good one for A H Nutritionist. I created this blog, made a logo, revitalised my website and had more articles published in the SISTERS Magazine (a dream come true for me). And I'm praying 2014 will bring us much much more!

The 3 Cores of Healthy Eating

There are so many tips and advice on what to have and what not to have, that we often get confused by the many misunderstood messages flying around making us question every single thing we eat and drink. If you want to be healthy AND happy at the same time (which can be done), follow my 3 core guidelines below.

Homemade Protein Shake

Since, my brother has become more active; going to the gym regularly and been going to play football (a lot!!), he has been asking me to make him a protein shake for a while. I have made some before and have been experimenting but I think I have finally mastered it.

With people being more health conscious, going to the gym and being doing more exercise, the interest in protein shakes has grown so much over the last couple of years. But what does it actually do?

EVENT: Organic & Natural Beauty Show 2013

I got a request by email to attend the Organic & Natural Beauty Show. Being into all things natural I decided to register for a free ticket and go. I went just for a fun day out and to find out what natural products are out there for us to use (and also for the freebies!). ;-)

We use so many products, sometimes we forget how much chemicals we are exposed to. We sometimes think nothing of it as it part of our everyday life, from moisturisers to home cleaning products to hair products.

Hair and Nutrition

Hair is part of a women’s beauty so you can imagine my horror when I noticed my hair falling out. I noticed that when I comb my hair, more hair than usual will end up on my hair brush, when I wash my hair, my hair would easily slip through my fingers and down  the plughole. I got really worried as my hair has always been nice and thick and didn't want to lose my healthy hair at a ‘young age’.

Just Walk!

Whenever I come back from a walk, I always wished I made more time and did it more often; especially when it the sun is out and weather is nice and warm. I love walking and I want get people walking as well. It’s the most simple and easiest form of exercise and a brilliant way to keep fit and healthy. You don’t need to fancy expensive gadget, just take a bottle of water some good walking shoes or trainers and simple step out and keep going.

Ouch! Help me nutrients, I'm hurt!

Last weekend I accidentally sliced the tip of my finger off, making blood pour out. I found it hard to stop the blood, so I finally listened to my mum and put turmeric powder on the wound to stop it bleeding, a well-known traditional remedy in the Indian culture, which really did work. Turmeric is used not only for cooking but also as a natural remedy, it acts as anti-inflammatory and stimulates growth of new tissues.
