Winter Warmers

Winter is here and we are definitely feeling the chill early this season, with the rain, wind and drop in temperature. Even though warm clothes and layers will help us to keep the cold out we need to make sure we are warm inside as well to keep us well and healthy through this blustery season. In this blog I am going to give you some ideas to help you keep warm on the inside by having the right foods.

Hair and Nutrition

Hair is part of a women’s beauty so you can imagine my horror when I noticed my hair falling out. I noticed that when I comb my hair, more hair than usual will end up on my hair brush, when I wash my hair, my hair would easily slip through my fingers and down  the plughole. I got really worried as my hair has always been nice and thick and didn't want to lose my healthy hair at a ‘young age’.

Just Walk!

Whenever I come back from a walk, I always wished I made more time and did it more often; especially when it the sun is out and weather is nice and warm. I love walking and I want get people walking as well. It’s the most simple and easiest form of exercise and a brilliant way to keep fit and healthy. You don’t need to fancy expensive gadget, just take a bottle of water some good walking shoes or trainers and simple step out and keep going.

RECIPES: Bean burger and Falafels

Being a nutritionist has made me more aware and informed about what is in my food, not only inside my home but outside my home as well. One of my missions is to make healthy alternatives to take away and processed food. My love for fresh food is always growing because I am always finding out about new foods that I may not have heard of, like recently I have been hearing a lot about kale, which I hadn’t heard of until recently (It’s a dark green leafy vegetable, a type of cabbage with many health properties). I still need to try it out!

RECIPE: Leek and Potato Soup

So last week I finally made leek and potato soup for the first time. With leeks being in season in February I thought it was a good time and it tasted yum on some of those cold wintery nights. It was very easy to make and I used the recipe from the ‘Eat Seasonally’ website.

RECIPE: Healthy pancakes - Pancake Day 2012

Happy Pancake Day! I love having pancakes in the morning; they are so scrummy and filling. And if you have it the right way, it’s a great way to help you have your 5-a-day. It’s easy to get carried away with Pancake Day by having too many calories; buying ready-made pancakes or making them from the batter mix packets. But it’s not that hard to have a healthy Pancake Day. I have had a fun morning making yummy wholemeal pancakes and taking pictures to show you all.

Ouch! Help me nutrients, I'm hurt!

Last weekend I accidentally sliced the tip of my finger off, making blood pour out. I found it hard to stop the blood, so I finally listened to my mum and put turmeric powder on the wound to stop it bleeding, a well-known traditional remedy in the Indian culture, which really did work. Turmeric is used not only for cooking but also as a natural remedy, it acts as anti-inflammatory and stimulates growth of new tissues.

It’s National Heart Month (February 2012) and being one of the most important organs of our body we should always be looking for ways to keep our heart healthy. One of the main risk factors of heart disease is high blood pressure. Healthy Catering

Being healthy is on everyone’s list. It’s a destination that we all want to reach and we have tried and tested all the routes. Whether it is a drastic lifestyle change or simple tips to implement into our diet, we've done it all. Some people may increase their physical activity whilst others just add fruit and vegetables to their diet.

The truth is that our bodies work differently according to our individual metabolism. Some peoples may work faster whilst others may work slower and there are ways to increase ones body metabolism. The point is our body works differently, whilst one diet plan may work on one person it may not work on another. But there are some things which work on everybody and that is to use healthy cooking methods.

You have to work hard for what you want...

In the past few weeks I have been thinking about something and it keeps on coming back to me. It’s something that I have learnt about and known about for a while but now I am actually getting to realise and understand it, as I feel that I am discovering the importance of it in my own life.

Choices and Changes

My birthday is coming up this month and I’m thinking of my age and how old I’m getting. It’s a time in which I reflect upon what I have achieved and what still needs to be done. This year I am thinking about how much I have changed my diet and lifestyle. Making healthy choices is becoming more important to me as I know that it will affect the years ahead especially if I reach a very old age. Visiting my grandma recently, has made me realise that I need to take extra care of my health and I want to know that I did everything I could to live a happy healthy life.
